Synopsis
Riches to rags. Does the murderer’s daughter deserve a second chance?
The FBI has convicted her father, and her hometown is reeling from the corruption. She’s hoping to rebuild her life, and the last thing she expects to find is help from a super-sexy video gamer geek.
Entrepreneur Jacob Reyes has escaped to Colorado for a much-needed rest before developing his next game world. He’s looking for inspiration in the mountain valley, not expecting an interior designer to get his creative juices flowing.
When Jacob asks Rachelle to redesign his vacation home, she has no idea she’s headed deeper into a world of jealousy and manipulation. But she’s a survivor and swears she will never trust anyone again. Can Jacob provide her a soft place to land until she discovers there’s no better place to call home than the small town of Elkridge?

“Sure enough, he was staring with such focus, her breath hitched in her throat. He wasn’t dangerous...at least she didn’t think so...but he had an intensity about him.”
Rachelle had an awful upbringing. Learning to be an object to all men, including her father, she’s never felt loved, respected or important. Being the centre of a tragic event in Elkridge, Rachelle is once again left alone, but now she’s determined to show everyone her true self, even if it means letting her walls come down.
“Determination gripped her hard. She would rise from the ashes and spread her wings, a Phoenix with feathers of purple and blue and gold. No one could stop her this time.”
Jacob has always wanting one thing he can’t have, respect and love of his father. When he hits it big and rises to fame, Jacob can’t help but to help and protect everyone in his life, even if it pushes him over the edge. When Rachelle walks in his life, all he wants to do is make her smile, but can he stop helping and allow himself just to feel?
“However, she admired his bold charm. He lived out loud and real. He didn’t hide his personality and was the type of real she’d never been allowed to be.”
I really enjoyed Atonement. Once again set in Elkridge, we can continue to see snippets of past characters, while meeting a group of new ones. Rachelle and Jacob’s story is both heartbreaking yet sensual. You cannot help but to root for them!!
