Blog Tour stop - Mikalo's Fate by Syndra K Shaw

Bare Naked Words are honoured to be taking part in the
Blog Tour of Mikalo's Fate

Mikalo’s Fate by Syndra K Shaw

Blurb:

"The dream is coming true in this, Mikalo's Fate, the third installment in Syndra K. Shaw's story of Ronan and Mikalo.

After escaping the memory of her failed first marriage and allowing herself to love again, Ronan is finally walking down the aisle with Mikalo Delis, her Greek god in grey wool. But once in Greece, Ronan discovers that not all is as it appears to be with the Delis clan, their judgement and mistrust of her surrounding her every move. Then disaster strikes, an event so shocking it rips Mikalo's family apart, Ronan's dream quickly dying.

Her life with her beloved hanging in the balance, Ronan learns the only thing standing between her and "I do" is a surprise visit from a love lost long ago. But will it be enough? Or will she return to the States alone, her heart once again breaking as yet another love dies?"

Excerpt:
"You are not dreaming," Mikalo now said, his voice almost a whisper, the words caressing the back of my neck.
"I'm awake," I said.
He shifted, pulling me into him, and then sighed.
"I am still in sleep," he mumbled.
"It's early."
"Mmmm ..."
His arm slowly moved from my chest, the palm briefly grazing my breasts, the hand sliding down my stomach, his fingers slipping lower to rest on my naked warmth.
He kissed the back of my neck as his hands pushed their way past my legs, opening me to him, his fingertips gently, oh so gently, rubbing me into wetness.
I sighed, closing my mind to the thoughts of my family as I opened myself to him.
He responded, pushing deep, one finger becoming two, his lips moving from my neck to my shoulder, his hardness pressing against me.
My head turned, my tongue seeking his.
We found each other, my legs now spread wide as I laid on my back.
He moaned as I reached out, my fist discovered him, my fingers wrapping around his width.  I gently pulled him near, silently imploring him inside.
But he ignored me, his lips on mine, his fingers diving deep, retreating and rubbing gently only to dive deep once again.
I took my mouth from his, burying my nose in his hair as he dipped low to suck my neck.  My fist still stroked him, he still rubbed and teased, my hips now pushing myself into him, willing his fingers deeper.
He took his lips from my neck.
"Marry me, my Grace," he whispered.
"Yes," I said, my breath against his lips.
His fingers withdrew, rubbing, teasing, torturing.
"Be my wife."
"Yes," I repeated.
His lips were on me again, his tongue pushing past my teeth as I lifted my hips, desperate for him inside me.  My fist still stroked, my palm growing wet from his excitement.
"Be mine forever," he then said, his breath growing ragged as his excitement grew, the realization that we had this, this intimacy, this togetherness, this heat, for the rest of our lives.
"Oh yes," I said quickly, my lips reaching for his.
"Yes?"
"Yes," I repeated, my hips now with a mind of their own as his fingers plunged deep.
"My love?" he asked.
"Always."
"My heart."
"Forever."
"My Grace ... " he began.
My fist grew wet as he throbbed, his heat running down my arm and onto my leg as his excitement hit its peak, Mikalo burying his face in my throat, his gasps and groans and whimpers and sighs spilling onto my neck.
His fingers continued their delicious assault, my own blessed chaos drawing near.
"Mikalo ... " I whimpered.
He lifted his face, pressing himself close, his eyes watching mine.
"My love," he said.
I gasped as the first wave hit, my hips off the bed as his fingers cruelly stopped, holding me at bay.
"Yes," he whispered, the word hot against my lips as he moved closer, encouraging me, urging me on, relishing my orgasm as much as I was.
His fingers moved again.
The second wave arrived, stealing my breath.
The fingers retreated to rub and tease, gently, lovingly.
My hips returned to the bed.
"Yes," he said again, his lips kissing me before his head returned to the pillow, the smell of our sex lingering in my nose as I closed my eyes and drifted back to sleep.

Author Profile:
Would you guess the quiet girl sitting in the corner of the cafe would write steamy romance?  That behind her rather conservative skirts and jackets and the no-fuss-wash-and-wear haircut is someone who’s creating true love and heartbreak, earth shattering orgasms and heartache?
Well, that’d be me.  Mikalo’s Grace was my first book, Mikalo’s Flame my second.  Mikalo’s Fate is coming up soon (Summer 2013) and, after that, I’ll be releasing a companion series.  More books will follow, I’m sure.
And, still, I’ll do what I do and let the world pass me by, completely unaware of the smoldering volcano of lust bubbling in their midst.
Born in France, educated in England, Syndra K. Shaw now lives very quietly in Paris and New York.

Book Cover Reveal - The Life of Arie Series (Book 1)

Synopsis:
I am Arie Belle and up until my mother’s unexpected and mysterious death my life had been pretty simple, but then things became dark and, at times, hopeless. Even my uncanny ability to communicate with nature had turned its back on me. My only saving grace is my lifetime friendship with the boy next door, River, whom I had always thought of as my soul mate up until my eighteenth birthday when everything seemed to change. My body tingles with heightened sensations and my emotions veer out of control. They are further tested when Ashe, a beautiful stranger with a powerful draw, enters my life and challenges my heart and soul. Amidst the rush of feelings after years of numbness, my true destiny slowly unravels and my journey to find out what I am, to find my mother’s killer, and stop my own death becomes a frantic rush before the next full moon.

This powerful story encaptures the true meaning of love and the dark corners of life that can either suck you in or save you.

Author Bio

My passion for writing started at a very young age.  It started with a multitude of diaries as soon as I could write well, then poetry, then short stories.  I received my BA at USC in Theatre with an unofficial minor in writing.  While at USC I wrote my first screenplay and post-graduation I was hired to write another screenplay, which I did successfully.  I have since started several books, but have never had the courage or time to finish them.  I missed it, but I was discouraged from my years in the industry and I was scared to go back, so I had convinced myself I was too busy and it would be a waste of time.  Then I started reading again which reignited my passion for writing. I started writing a story that had been brewing inside of me over the years.  The characters were slowly developing and itching to break out onto paper, so in the summer of 2011 I wrote the first two chapters.  Life got busy again and my passion was pushed aside, but then I met an amazing person who loved my story and encouraged me to start writing again. With that said, I am in a happier place now.  I am fulfilling my inner desire and passion to write while raising a family and living life. Thank you so much for your support! And I hope to keep the stories coming!!!

Hot Mess Book Review

Hot Mess by Anne Conley

Synopsis

Sam is a single dad, trying to get over the death of his ex-wife, and help his daughter move on from the loss of her mother.

Rachel is a single mom with a secret of her own that has kept her out of the dating scene for years.

What happens when this drop-dead gorgeous firefighter moves in across the street from the reticent woman with a past?

Sparks fly as the heat level rises in this new novel of Serendipity

My Review (4.5 stars)

I went into this book assuming it would be a nice little romance that slowly develops between two people, who had a certain amount of baggage to deal with but ultimately would work it out.  However it was more real than that.  Sam, yes, is a smoking hot firefighter who adores his young daughter whom he is now bringing up following the death of his wife.  So, you are already liking him a lot aren’t you?  I mean what’s not to like?  You want to take care of him, right?  Yeah me to!  Ooh and did I mention he is a very touchy feely kind of guy too, yes I know can it get any better?

Rachel is clearly a beautiful, strong, but very cautious woman due to her own history which is more complicated than you can imagine but the sensitive subject matter in this book was written and handled so well.  A brave move by Ms Conley to tackle this but she did a great job, and a learnt a lot about something I previously knew very little

Rachel is clearly very taken with Sam:

The butterflies in Rachel’s stomach had babies’

‘How soon could she get back to the house & have crazy wild monkey sex with the hunka love next to her.

Mmmm ….My thoughts exactly.

The story had its twists and turns throughout, with a couple of OMG moments that made my stomach lurch as well as some jeez guys get your shit together moments.  Both Sam & Rachel have their daughters to think about not just their own feelings and it was because of this that some of the decisions they both made were a lot easier to understand.

The beginning of each chapter started with either a blog post, or an excerpt from the Firefighter’s manual, and these were a clever touch to the book

A well written and strong love story.

*This book was provided to me as an arc in exchange for an honest and unbiased review*

About the Author:

Anne Conley lives in a small town in East Texas, not unlike Serendipity, with her husband, two kids and numerous goats.  She brazenly stole her pseudonym from her great-grandmother, a true pioneer woman who raised seven kids alone: churning butter, plucking chickens, knitting clothes, and putting coal oil on every visible wound.

Just Breathe - Rachel Brookes

Just Breathe, Rachel Brookes

*SYNOPSIS*

For Savannah Rae, living life without her parents was unimaginable. But being blamed for her first love’s suicide? That destroyed every part of who she was.

Gone were the days of innocence, happiness, and dreams. Now her days simply meant attempting to survive. In her mind, her only means for that was replacing her grief with men, booze and the fast life. And for five years, it worked.

When an opportunity to leave the nightmares of her past in Australia opens up, she takes it. Los Angeles beckons – with hopes of late nights, new beginnings, and the promise of a string of endless men to distract her, she can’t wait to dive in.

One thing she didn’t count on was meeting her match.

In the eyes of outsiders, Tate Connors has it all; the ultimate LA bachelor who is content with his lifestyle of wild nights, women and one night stands. He’s Mr. Unpredictable with looks that could destroy any woman with one glance.

The craziness of Los Angeles throws them into the chaotic path of each other. Savannah becomes the perfect game, and Tate becomes the ultimate prey. Lines are crossed, emotions are smashed, and the idea of who they truly are begins to be tangled.

However, one thing will become clear.

They are more alike than either one could ever have imagined.

 My Review (no spoilers)

The Prologue was just about the sweetest thing I have ever read, and when I had read the whole book I Tweeted the lovely Rachel Brookes and said “Wow, just Wow”.  Because that’s how I felt!  The story was real and not overdone, the characters could all be someone we know and I think we all have friends that are like them a little bit, maybe not as hot and gorgeous but like them all the same. Tanzi (Sav’s BFF) & Jack (Tanzi’s boyfriend) are adorably funny.

Savannah is a feisty, gorgeous Australian in LA, perhaps a little off the rails due to the ghosts of her past, but I loved her for her sassy, smart mouth.

But holy hell when she lays eyes on Tate Connors for the very first time you know sparks are going to fly:

He was what I liked to call my perfect prey. And he ticked all the right boxes:  dark brown, scruffy  just had a wild time in bed hair – check;  piercing blue eyes, - check;  eyelashes that lasted for days – check;  and a set of lips that were begging to be bitten - check”  (Savannah)

“I watched his lips closely as they made their way toward me in all their pink pouty glory, that bottom lip…god, I’d love to bite it” (Savannah)

Yes me too!

Well I have to say I was practically salivating by now, and completely sold on Tate Connors too. Who gives a damn if he’s a player, notorious for his womanizing and partying,  I wanted his ass right there and then and so did Savannah!  Soon she was falling victim to the “Tate Connors effect”. The banter between them was laugh out loud funny and sexy as hell in equal measures. And yes it was very steamy in places, in fact it was sizzling right off the page.

Savannah and Tate both have ghosts from their pasts that continue to haunt them to this day and that was never going to make this relationship all plain sailing, but the twists and turns this story took me on broke my heart more than a few times and I really wanted them to get their happy ever after.

“What are you doing to me, Sav? he asked breathlessly

This book is not the end of Savannah & Tate’s story, and I can’t wait to see where Ms Brookes is going to take them next.

As a debut book, Rachel Brookes has done real good, this girl is going places, and I will be following, I’m sure you will be too.
