Underground fighter Remington Tate is a mystery, even to himself. His mind is dark and light, complex and enlightening. At times his actions and moods are carefully measured, and at others, they spin out of control.

Through it all, there's been one constant: wanting, needing, loving, and protecting Brooke Dumas. This is his story; from the first moment he laid eyes on her and knew, without a doubt, she would be the realest thing he's ever had to fight for.

Teaser

The Seattle crowd is wild tonight. Backstage, the noise reverberates between the walls, bounces off the metal lockers in the room where I prepare with some of the other fighters. I watch Coach bandage the fingers of one hand, and all I can think of is how Brooke Dumas is out there among the spectators, sitting in one of the seats I bought for her.

I’m so jacked up I feel like I’m plugged into a fucking electrical outlet. Blood pumps heady through my veins. My muscles are loose and warm and ready to contract and strike anything in my path. I’m ready to put on a fucking show and there’s one girl, one lovely girl, that’s got me tied up in knots, that I want to see me fight.

I hand Coach my other hand and stare at my bare knuckles as he shoots off the same instructions he always says.

My guard . . . patience . . . balance . . .

I zone out, letting his words slip through me and into my subconscious, where they belong. Right before a fight, I find a calm. I can hear all the noise but listen to nothing. A clarity comes with fighting. Every detail sharpening in your mind.

This sharpness and awareness makes me lift my head to the doorway. She stands there like out of some childhood dream, looking at nobody but me.

She wears a pair of white jeans and a pink top that makes her skin look even tanner than it is and so damn lickable my tongue hurts inside my mouth. Neither of us so much as twitches as we stare.

Hammer steps into my peripherals, and when I see him head straight for her, my anger ignites.

With deadly calm, I grab the tape from Coach and throw it aside as I stalk over to her. Then, I position myself directly behind her and to her right, taking my spot in a way that lets the dipshit Hammer know I was born to be here. Beside, behind, and by her.

“Just walk off,” I warn him, my voice low but lethal.

He doesn’t seem inclined to listen, instead narrows his eyes in contest. “She yours?” he asks with narrowed eyes.

Nodding, I narrow my eyes and let my gaze burn into him. “I can guarantee you, she’s not yours.”

The asshole leaves, and I notice Brooke doesn’t move for a long second, as if she doesn’t want to step away from me in the same way I don’t want her to go anywhere. Holy god, she smells good.

I drag her scent to my lungs like a junkie, and suddenly every inch of my body wants to cup her hips and draw her into me so I can scent her more. She turns her head to mine and softly murmurs, “Thank you,” but quickly leaves. I duck my head and haul in as much as I can before she walks away.

I remain standing there, feeling dizzy, my shorts ridiculously tented.

“Riptide! Hammer! You’re up next!”

Exhaling as I hear my name, I glance narrowly at Hammer across the room, who seems amused as fuck that I am clearly in deep shit with this girl.

He’s in even deeper shit with me.

“Remington . . . are you listening to me?”

I whip around to Coach, who’s fixing that last bandage he couldn’t secure. I keep glaring at Hammer as Riley extends my satin robe, and as I ram my arms into the sleeves, I decide Hammer better be prepared to vacation in a coma for a while.

“I said don’t let that bastard get to your head.” Coach knocks his knuckles to my temples. “And that girl neither.”

“That girl’s been in his head since the first fight here,” Riley tells him with a smirk. “Hell, he wants to carry that girl around with him like an accessory on tour. Pete is drafting the contract as we speak.”

Coach pokes a finger into my chest and I feel it almost bending. “I don’t give a shit what you’re planning to do tonight with the girl. You keep your head in the fight going on right now. You got that?”

I don’t answer, but obviously I get it. I don’t need to be told these things. Half a fight is in your head. But Coach likes feeling useful, so I just roll with it and trot out. I’ve fought all my life to stay sane. To keep focused, driven, and centered. But tonight, I fight to show one woman my worth.

5 Bare Naked Stars *****

I rocked up to the Remington Riptide Tate party relatively late and only read Real a few weeks ago, hastily followed by Mine.  And I truly believed that I could not fall for this rather primitive yet sensitive man any more than I already had.

I WAS WRONG, Remy is a novella covering both the past and present from his POV, I was consumed by his honest love for Brooke Dumas, I can even hear her name roll off his tongue, the very thought gives me goosebumps.

There is a saying in boxing “In the ring the truth will always find you”, and I think the same can be said for this book, there were so many reasons why it might not have worked, would Katy be able to portray Remy’s obsession with Brooke, express his almost primeval claiming of her, what would it be like to be in his head whether he’s black or blue. Not every author would have been able to pull this off but Katy Evans most certainly did.

I loved his typical blokey thoughts:

A blush reddens her pretty tan skin.  It colours her face and spreads down her throat and dips into her cleavage, and I want to pull open the buttons of her top and see if she’s blushing all the way to the tips of her pretty little tits. Remy

To see Remy & Brooke get their happy ever after satisfied my slushy old romantic soul as much as the primal sex satisfied my inner horndog!!!!!

Although a man of few words Remy’s inner thoughts were voiced perfectly.

I have NO. WORDS.  No fucking words to tell her. The way I need her. Remy

I cried both happy and sad tears, his viewpoint of Brooke seeing him injected for the first time crushed me inside and I splashed big fat tears all over my Kindle, but when he realised she’d stayed, I was lifted back up to little sniffles of happiness.

Brooke saw me.  I saw her face for a moment.  I saw her wide, scared eyes, fuck me. Remy

Brooke Dumas, who looks at me like I'm a god, is watching this. My head hangs and it's all black. Black like me. And now she will know. She will know. And she. Will. Leave. The despair hits me so hard, I want to die right here, right now. Remy

And there is only one quote I could choose to end my review on:

“Tell me I’m your Real again, Remington” Brooke

“You’re my Real little firecracker.  You’re my everything” Remy

Even now that makes my eyes a little misty and heart so happy.

I loved this series of books, I loved Brooke Dumas, I loved Remington Tate and I think I may love Katy Evans just a little!

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs.  The real answer is, “in bits and pieces”.  She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions.  Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times.

She has an off the wall, snarky, off the cuff sense of humor that often shocks even those who’ve known her for years.  And she loves that her children have all been blessed that ability to make others laugh as well.  At least she’s grateful most of the time!  Her husband often teases her about how she “makes this stuff up” when he’s reading a piece of her work. … The answer—“it just comes to me when I’m typing”. Scary thought, huh!

We nearly had a fight on our hands over this book. So to stop the Bare Naked Team falling out over it we let both Tammy & Nicola review!

Tammy's Review

4 Bare Naked Stars ****

I absolutely loved Mike’s Way Back.  I was hooked from the very first page.  It was a quick light hearted love story of two damaged souls.

“If anyone ever asked, the defining moment that clinched his total interest, was when she slipped on the dark framed glasses. She went from beautiful to smoking-ass hot in that blip of a moment.”

Mike was such a HOT damaged cop.  You couldn’t help but fall in love with him.  He had been through more than most in the line of duty and love.  He was fighting a daily battle with his demons.  Could Taryn help him get past his demons?

“Of-freaking-course he’d be a cop.” Taryn muttered to herself

Taryn was a sassy, beautiful, world class designer.  Taryn’s father and brothers were cops and were very strict and controlling when she was growing up.  She disliked their controlling ways so much she ran away to California after graduation. She had been through a very bad breakup and wasn’t looking for love especially with a cop.  She came to Renland for a client and fell in love with the peaceful charming small town.

Taryn had zero desire to date a cop and made it very clear from their first meeting.  But Mike managed to get under her skin.  How could she possibly not fall for his charm?

“He’d been showing her how with him, she could feel treasured and protected instead.

She bit her lip. There was always the last point in his favor. He was built, strong and hot as freaking hell. “

The relationship started off as two people that couldn’t help the attraction that flamed between them.  But they were both so hurt they remained only friends in the beginning.  Then they could no longer deny their feelings.  Oh boy did they have some flaming HOT steamy sex once they got together.  They slowly began to fall for each other.  But they both had so many demons and hurt to work through.  Could they beat the demons and fall in love or would they run away from each other?

No spoilers here.  I loved the ending and can’t wait to read Gabby’s story the next in the series.

Nicola's Review

4 Bare Naked Stars ****

“Mike’s Way Back” is book 1 of a new series by author Amy Gregory. This is a feel good romance set in the small, homely town of Renland, Kansas. The story centres around Mike, the towns detective and Taryn, a designer who is in town on a job.

After an incident that nearly cost Mike his life working his dream job as a detective in Chicago, he decides to return to his hometown for a change of pace and quieter life. Something he promised his mum.  Here he was happier and more at ease.  “He buried his demons and kept the personal hell he experienced to himself”, but he’s on the right path.

Taryn is a renowned designer and sought out from clients all over the world.  She loves her job, it’s her passion and her work speaks for itself.  She loves living her life travelling, doing something she loves and being free.  Away from the suffocating life she lived growing up as a cop’s daughter. This was only made worse when her two older brothers joined the force as well, which is why she vowed never to get involved with “male authority figures”.

So when she lands herself a job designing a store in the small, quaint town she all but jumps at the opportunity.  It is here, in a bar called ‘Jenny’s’ where she meets the ever gorgeous, detective Mike Sterling.

“It was those eyes though that grabbed her and wouldn’t let go. They were so sharp, she felt almost as if he could see deep into the depths of her soul.”

And Mike was just as affected by her as she was of him.

“Just her voice alone was enough to set his blood on fire. Smooth, calm, and almost seductive,”

“The skin of her hand as soft as velvet, but the touch was pure electricity.”

It is when Taryn returns to her home in California for a short while that her and Mike’s relationship really develops. Through constant emails, phone calls and texts to each other she finds herself falling deeper for the man she vowed not to fall for.

She was melting under his spell and for the first time in a very long time, she was worried knowing she was no match for this man. What really scared the absolute hell out of her was...it felt right.”

And when she returns to the town to carry on with her job, they don’t waste any time in growing their relationship even more. He knows her issues with him being a cop and he will fight to prove to her that he will be nothing like her father or brother.

“Sugar. This isn’t a power struggle I’m trying to win with you. We are totally equal here. But I’ll let you know right now-there is one thing I will fight you on.”

“I want you Taryn. Give me a hundred and one excuses, and I’ll fight every one of them tooth and nail.”

And who is there to help him win over Taryn?  Her very much gay, and fun loving business partner, Andrew. I love him.  He’s been with Taryn since college, and they quickly formed an unbreakable friendship. They became family to one and other.

“You’ve used work as an excuse for two, almost three years now.” He brushed the hair from her eyes.  “You’ve got to put yourself out there again and take a chance.”

“I have.”

Andrew tipped his head. “A casual date here and there isn’t what I’m talking about. Your cop’s been emailing and calling for a month. You’re giddy after you’ve spoken with him. Even if you try to act aloof, I can see it in your eyes.”

But can he open himself up and divulge his inner most demons to Taryn?

“Mike...you can trust me with your pain.”

I was rooting for Mike and Taryn’s relationship to work from the moment they started talking to each other. The banter they shared had me laughing and they were just perfect for each other.

Yes both of them have demons that they need to overcome, but with them working together they can help each other.

Yes there were a couple of things I didn’t understand in the book, and why things were placed where they were, but Amy made it clear at the end.

I am looking forward to the next instalment.   Although the second book is centring on a different character I can’t wait to hear their story and to see if we get to find out what’s next for Mike and Taryn.

**BlogTour** True Bliss by B J Harvey

Title: TRUE BLISS (Bliss # 2)
Author: BJ Harvey
Published: November 25th
Organized by: The Book Avenue

She watched her best friend find her superhero.

Now she wants her turn.

Despite a run of bad dates with Mr. Wrong, Mr. Boring, Mr. Bad Breath, Mr. Grabby Hands, and even Mr. Say I Love You After One Date To Get Into Your Pants, Kate McGuinness is more determined than ever to find the one.

Having tried everything else, she turns to the internet in a last ditch attempt to find her elusive prince.
But Kate doesn’t want an everyday, run of the mill love.

She wants the kind of love that makes your heart skip a beat. The kind of love that makes you dance in the rain and bottle up the sunset. The once in a lifetime kind of love that authors write about, musicians sing about, and lovers dream about.

Could a certain police officer in training, who has come to her rescue in the past, be the one to swoop in and save her heart?

What if the love Kate desperately seeks has been in front of her the whole time?

She just needs to open her eyes to see it...

*Disclaimer: This book contains a hot as hell stripper with a penchant for public sex and exhibitionism who may or may not succeed in bringing out the inner firecracker in all of us. Oh, and don't forget the batteries.*

Zander

Realizing that the day is getting away from me, I gather my laundry for the week and head around the block to Suds R Us, my local laundromat. Once I have the washing machine on, I sit back in the plastic chairs lining the wall and pull out my phone. Time for my weekly phone call to Mom and the girls.

It rings twice before my sister Danika picks up. “City morgue. You kill ‘em, we chill ‘em.”

She never fails to amaze me. “Danika, that is terrible!” I say, still chuckling to myself.

“Zan! Tell me you’re coming home soon.”

“I wish I was, squirt. I’m too busy with work and the academy. Who would’ve thought you have to study to become a cop?”

“Well duh! Of course you do. How else will you know how to get fat and eat donuts all day?”

“Oh is that what I’ll be doing all day? Well shit, I’m glad you told me now,” I reply sarcastically.

Claire's Review

4 Bare Naked Stars ****

I read Temporary Bliss as a pre-empt because I was reviewing True Bliss so I already knew I was in for for a treat. In True Bliss we get a little more of Mac and Daniels story but the stars of this book are Kate (Mac's bestie, roomy and side kick in life) and Zander (Mac's hot ex fuck buddy) so a bit of a moral dilemma already forming!

In Temporary Bliss we met Kate and Zander, we knew there had been an incident that neither were talking about and sensed there could be an attraction, so no real spoilers there, what did surprise me was how likeable the characters were!

**“Okay, I literally threw myself at him, but he rebuffed my advances and put me to bed after making me take some Advil. I fell asleep with a kiss on the forehead and hearing him tell me that as much as he’d like to lose himself in me, he didn’t want me to regret him in the morning.”**

I love stories that are told from both perspectives and watching the situation being manipulated by Zander and Mac, sorry I mean, watching the story unfold from both Kate and Zan was great.

Kate is hilarious. Really really lovely and her dating disasters had me laughing out loud!

**“What I’ve found out about the aging Roger is that not only is he old enough to be my father, he’s also an accountant who works for City Hall, a job he’s had since he left college in the 80’s. He’s also never been out of the country, still lives down the road from his parents, and likes to play chess in his spare time. He’s never had a speeding ticket, never been arrested, and his hair looks like a toupee on crack.”**

**“Maybe my man radar is broken beyond repair. Maybe I’m destined to live a life filled with self-induced orgasms and doting on my best friend’s baby.”**

Zander is a dark horse. Pre-conceptions of a male stripper? dumb, vain, vacuous, self-centered? Zan is none of these, he's hot, considerate, funny, caring, hot, passionate, hot, hot and hot!
But not without his share of dating disasters.......don't forget he's hot!

**“Holy shit. This woman isn‘t just a cougar, she’s bordering on being a hyena, willing to take prey at any costs.”**

But he's not a player, he's actually really sweet *sighs*

**“So with that in mind, I’m going to keep talking to Kate on the internet. I want to get to know her, and for her to get to know me without any awkwardness. Kate is different, and maybe different is what I need, what I want now.
Fuck, I’ve spent so much time around women, I’m starting to fucking sound like one.”**

So this is Kate and Zan's story, with a little of Mac and Superman thrown in, it's not all plain sailing but you'll be routing for them until the end!
