**Blog Post** Pursuing Carrie by Jenn Hype

 Book: Pursuing Carrie (Pretending #3)

By Jenn Hype

Genre: Contemporary Romance

**Can be read as a standalone, but backstory and character development from the first two books of the series may make this read more enjoyable.

Carrie is plain, quiet and doesn’t really give a shit what people think. Her priorities in life have absolutely nothing to do with dating or relationships. Quite the opposite, in fact, seeing as how a relationship is the absolute last thing she wants. Ever.

Joe is charming and charismatic, but the only thing he’s ever worked hard at in his adult life is his job. Outside of being a cop, he’s only interested in things that come easily, and that includes women. He gives the women he sleeps with respect, affection, and mind blowing orgasms - but that’s all he gives.

After being brought together by a mutual friend, Stacy, Joe and Carrie don’t exactly hit it off. They are the exact opposite of what the other looks for in a lover, yet they can’t fight the growing attraction that blossoms between them.

Under the pretense of wanting to be friends for the sake of Stacy, Joe sets out to win Carrie over, but his normal charms don’t work on her. And the more he tries to win her friendship, the more he realizes that friendship is not at all what he really wants.

Carrie’s willpower is strong, but it’s no match for Joe’s persistence, and despite her reluctance, Carrie finds herself falling for Joe in a way that she’s sure will cause irreparable damage in the end. Because nothing good ever comes out of hooking up with someone you care about, and why should this time be the exception?

Tainted pasts, crazy ex-lovers and flying dildos notwithstanding, Carrie and Joe find themselves venturing into unknown territory. It’s not easy, but it’s hot as hell, and luckily they are both too stubborn to give up easily on something that feels a lot more real than a short fling.

                                                         Our Review

Review by Tara

"I never really used to care about hurting people’s feelings, and I know that made me a bitch, but I didn’t care. I’d lost too many people in my life, and if someone couldn’t stick it out through my bad side, then good riddance."

What do you do when you have to keep  everyone at arm's length, because of the fear of getting hurt or rejected?  How would it feel to hide the real you from yourself and others?  Carrie and Joe live with the questions on a day basis. When their two worlds collide, they each struggle with their inner demons, and fears, just to find happiness.

"My heart flat lined, all the air swooshed out of my lungs, and it wasn’t until she finally stopped dancing that I felt like I could actually breathe. When my heart started to beat again, something had changed. Like someone who died and came back to life, I felt like I had a renewed sense of self."

This is my third book from Jenn. Each and everyone flowed so well together. Each character was carried on through each book, which I love, as I get updated on each of their stories!  Jenn has a good sense of humour when she writes, which holds my interest throughout the whole book.  With the humour, she also includes real-life scenarios as well. I personally would read Pressing Adalyn, Chasing Stacy and Pursuing Carrie in this order!  You will really get to know each character well!

"I would spend the rest of my life not knowing if I could have fixed things if I didn’t take the leap and find out. No matter the outcome, it was time for me to go home."

Meet the Author

What's up world - I'm Jenn Hype.

Author, mother, wife, singer/songwriter, aspiring comedian - I wear many hats. Some of them fit, some of them look ridiculous, and all of them are fun. Life's too short to take anything too seriously, so I don't.

Sarcasm is my go-to, especially when it's most inappropriate. Need someone to make an uncomfortable situation even more awkward? I'm the girl for the job.

I'm ridiculously A.D.D. and I own it. I have a serious addiction to ecards and the majority of my Pinterest account is dedicated to them. The key to my heart is glitter and caffeine - my needs are basic.

I'm a bookaholic and I crush hard on my book boyfriends and their authors. Some might call me obsessive, but I disagree. That word really doesn't do justice to how crazy I get when it comes to something I'm passionate about. I'm not afraid to go fangirl on you, so don't test me.

Anything else you want to know, feel free to ask. I'm an open book, and I love to hear from readers.

3 years after graduating college, Adalyn still isn’t sure what to do with her life. After a traumatic event in college throws her life off course, she bounces between jobs and men aimlessly until deciding to move from her small town in Ohio to live with her college roommate, Stacy, in New York.

Being closed off and sarcastic has helped Adalyn cope with her past, but when Ian, Stacy’s sexy and successful friend, comes into the picture, her carefully constructed defense mechanisms start to fail.

Determined not to let Ian get under her skin, Adalyn fights hard to appear unaffected by Ian’s charm and devastating good looks. Undeterred and unconvinced by Adalyn’s attempts to feign indifference to him, Ian continues to push Adalyn out of her comfort zone, unwilling to give in to her efforts to push him away.

Slowly, Ian starts to break through to the core of who Adalyn really is, but both of their pasts threaten to destroy any semblance of a relationship that could ever exist between the two of them.

Playing Stacy

Stacy’s no stranger to trouble, considering that’s where her smart ass remarks usually land her...in trouble.

A drunken night out with her best friend Adalyn lands her in jail. Not that she’d done anything wrong, except for hit on the incredibly sexy cop who showed up to take a report from Adalyn who’d had her purse stolen.

Chad, a no-nonsense officer who takes himself and his job very seriously, has no patience for Stacy’s shenanigans and over the top flirting. So he hauls her to jail to teach her a lesson, but didn’t expect it to cause Stacy to become a regular fixture in his life.

Stacy ends up befriending Chad’s partner, Joe, who keeps her company after Chad dumps her in a holding cell for the night. Joe and Stacy hit it off right away, resulting in Stacy always being around, no matter how much Chad tries to avoid her.

The constant bickering and sarcastic insults only heighten the sexual tension between Chad and Stacy, and Chad’s ability to control his emotions and actions becomes increasingly difficult.

A low scale war is declared between them, but their actions continue to both hurt each other while simultaneously pulling them together. When the fighting leads to literal bloodshed, they begin to wonder if they both should surrender before the war destroys them both.

Kristie's 5 star review

What do you do when an incredibly sexy, and undeniably dominant man, offers to grant three of your darkest fantasies, if you give yourself to him completely, for three days?

Most of us wouldn't think twice about it, and we sure as hell wouldn't make him wait....but, that is exactly what Jillian "JT" Ingram does when the insanely delectable, sexy, and undeniably convincing Nick Colton makes that very offer to her.

From the moment he lays eyes on the beautiful photographer renting his lake house for a couple of weeks, Nick feels a bone deep familiarity, and instinctively knows he must get closer to her….no matter how much she resists.

“Fuck!  This girl had it, with a capital I’m so screwed.” - Nick Colton

Now, Jill has her reasons for keeping her distance, but her body and her heart can’t deny the pull she feels to Nick and his dominant nature.  Her past still haunts her.  And her fear of loving again consumes her.  Burying herself in her work, she has created walls around her heart that she fears Nick can breach.  She doesn’t think she can handle that kind of consuming need, desire, and love again.

“Nick has hardcore written all over him.  He’s someone I might feel serious about, and I don’t want a serious relationship.”  More specifically, she didn’t want to love anyone.  Love consumed her.  She gave too much and needed to much from a man.  Too much of his time and too much of his control.” - Jillian “JT” Ingram

When sitting down to write this review, my first thought about this book was, HOT DAYUM!!!!  Stone Wear is undeniably one of the hottest, most erotic books I have read in a long time.  The flow was smooth, and it had a slow, intensely erotic burn that left me melting in my seat.  Marilyn Lakewood has successfully morphed a sweet, intoxicating love story, with a deeply erotic, sexy, and intense fantasy filled with plenty of sex, BDSM, and control.  The fantasies that Nick and Jillian indulge in will make you squirm….and beg for more.  What more can I say about the fantasies….voyeurism, cowboys, and piercings, OH MY!!  I appreciated the realistic approach to the story, as much as I did the panty-melting chemistry.  In addition to being incredibly sexy, both Nick and Jillian had a sense of humor, which only adds to their desirability.

“How long could a man sustain a hard-on without brain damage?” - Nick Colton

There are also surprises and secrets that both strengthen as well as threaten the fragile relationship they begin to build.  When Nick realizes why Jillian is so familiar to him, I giggled out loud.  I would love to hear the conversation between them when Nick reveals the connection.  All in all, I loved this book.  I hadn’t read the first of the series, but plan to go back and do just that while I wait impatiently for book #3.

Meet the Author

Marilyn and her husband live in the northwest U.S., not too far from the Canadian border. She thinks the long, cold winters are perfect “writing weather.” Most of the time, she doesn’t mind the short days, or the snow—except when she needs to drive in a blizzard, in the dark.

Marilyn started writing sexy stories “just for fun” and she’ll joyously admit she’s obsessed with creating hard-core dominant heroes and happily-ever-after endings.

Writing erotic romance lets her explore love, passion, and sex, through the lens of different characters and settings. It’s also a way to keep her imagination kindled during the September to March “cold snap.” Marilyn loves music, flowers, sci-fi and romance movies, and taking daily walks with Precious, her rescued dog.

She’s a country girl at heart, and although she imagines travelling to distant, romantic shores, her favorite place is home with her family.

Nick stood and held out his hand to her. “It’s only eight-thirty. Let’s go for a walk out front.”
Unable to resist, Jill put her hand in Nick’s and let him tug her to her feet. He wants to collect the kiss I promised. She searched his handsome face, trying to pinpoint why he affected her so much. What did she know about him? He desired her, definitely. He was generous, intelligent, and dominant all the way through. What she didn’t know was everything else—about his divorce, his job, his life.
He didn’t know her, either. She wasn't ready to divulge any secrets, but the fact remained that if he knew what type of woman she'd been in the past, and still was inside, he might not be so intent on her.
Jacob had said that loving her was the most exquisite, consuming, and satisfying thing he had ever done―but not always easy. He’d told her if anything ever happened to him, she had to choose a man strong enough to give her what she needed.
“Come on, babydoll.” Nick led her off the front porch and ambled down the drive, holding her hand. “Let’s start working on this.”
“This?” she asked, glancing up at him.
He swung her around and into his embrace. “Yes, this.”
His mouth slanted over hers and his hand threaded through her hair, holding her head. His other arm snugged her against his torso while his lips caressed and controlled her mouth. He nibbled her bottom lip and his hand shifted to her jaw, urging her to open for him. When she did, his tongue pushed inside, stroking, exploring, claiming. Their warm breath mingled, their lips fused in passionate foreplay. Her sex clenched, her knees wobbled, and she sagged against him.
Sweet sin! The man knew how to kiss. He crushed her body to his, holding her up, plundering and demanding surrender. She moaned, and he kissed her harder. He captured her against his muscled chest, shifting their bodies until he had her back against the trunk of a towering evergreen.
“That's it, woman.” He lifted her and fit his hips between her thighs, then guided one of her legs around his waist. His lips and teeth worked down the column of her throat and his hand slid under her camisole. He touched her bare breast.
She jolted.
So did he.
“Hell.” He thumbed the discrete ring that pierced her nipple. “I’m going to lose it right here.”
“You like my piercings?”
He chuffed. “Damn straight. I’ve been hard since I noticed the jewelry yesterday morning.” He kept his hand on her breast and used the other hand to tilt her face to his. His stormy eyes seduced her as much as the thick erection pushed against her clit. “I want to get inside you and make you scream.”
She blushed, self-conscious. “I never scream.” A part of her wanted him to try though. He might be what she needed to soar, to finally get past her self-imposed reserve and restraint. But right now, he was too much too fast.
“You will for me.” He kissed her again, keeping his hips tight against hers. For another cherished moment, she let herself enjoy it. His mastery thrilled her. Moisture dampened her thighs and the crotch of her shorts.
Her body wanted him. Lust, pure and simple.
What if she trusted him with her innermost desires and he didn’t understand? The odds were against finding someone as strong as Jacob. Twice in a lifetime, just didn’t happen. She hadn't really looked for someone else because she didn't want to settle for something less in a relationship. It would feel dishonest and only disappoint both parties.
“I can't.” She pushed Nick's arms to stop him. He felt too good. Too strong and confident, and too much like someone she would desire all the time. Her body sang when he touched her or even looked at her. A ricochet of unsettling emotions blasted through the lustful haze and cooled her fever. “No.”
Nick marshaled up every scrap of willpower he possessed and forced himself to stop. Fuck, this girl did it for him. His lungs heaved. His body shook and his cock ached, tight with blood…but he had to slow down. She wasn’t ready yet.
When he swung her up into his arms, he savored her sweet little gasp of surprise and the way she clung like a little koala bear around his neck. He pressed his mouth to her forehead and breathed in the scent of her hair. “Yes, you'll scream―but not because a damned tree is rubbing you raw. If anything makes you scream, it’s going to be me shoved deep in your tight little body.”
