Aiden’s POV

Liam and Allison turn to head towards the house.  I know that I should follow them, but damn it I’m holding her and I don’t want to let go.  She stands still
in my arms not trying to break our connection.  My right arm is still draped across her waist holding her tight against my chest.  I gently grip her left hip and
turn her to face me.  She’s staring straight at my chest, not meeting my eyes.
I gently lift her chin with my index finger.  Fuck she is so beautiful.  What if something would have happened to her today?   I can feel the anger trying to
resurface.  I take a deep breath and exhale slowly.  Hailey is silently watching me now.  I lean down and rest my forehead against hers and close my eyes.
Both of my hands find her hips.  I’m going to take every advantage to touch her that I can.

“I was worried about you, angel.” I tell her honestly.  Well as honest as I can be.

“Aiden, we were fine.  Those guys were just being friendly.”

“You don’t know them.  Hell, they could have taken you both and did god only knows what to you.”  I swallow back the emotion of just the thought of her being hurt.

“I’m not yours to worry about.” She whispers. And there it is the knife that is twisting in my chest.  She’s right, I know it and she knows it, but fuck if I like it. I pull back and bring both of my hands to her cheeks.  “Angel, I care about you.  You may not be mine, but I will never let anything happen to you.  Do you understand that?” I ask her.  I really need her to know how special she is.

“One big brother is enough, Aiden.  You don’t have to feel obligated to protect me.”

“Who said I wanted to be your big brother?” I ask trying to keep my voice calm.  This is truly a daunting feat with all of the rage boiling inside me.  She thinks I want to be her big brother?  Fuck that!

“Don’t you?  Why else would you go all alpha Aiden and try to keep me from them?” she asks me. 

I watch her closely as she waits for my answer. This beautiful girl has no idea
the war I have fought these past few months.
She has no idea how she affects me, how much I want her.  This is killing me.  Wanting something this much, something that I can’t have.  She licks her lips and now
all I can think about is tasting her.  I don’t even realize that I’m going to do it until our lips meet and I’m consumed with her sweetness.  Lips of an angel, I tell you.

I move one hand behind her neck and the other is holding her cheek.  I angle her head back and deepen the kiss.  Hailey opens her mouth and I take full advantage to slide my tongue in and hers immediately duals with mine.  She moans and my desire is fueled.  I can’t get her close enough, can’t get enough period.  Hailey slows the kiss and pulls her lips from mine.  I tug her into a tight embrace. 

“I need for you to always be safe.  Not because I feel like your older brother, but because you are important to me.  I couldn’t handle it if something happened to you.”

I feel her nod against my chest.  “Let’s go, they’re going to wonder where we are.” I whisper in her ear.

She slowly pulls away from me.  “Thank you, Aiden.” With that she turns and heads back to the beach house.

I stand there and watch my heart walk away from me.  I place my hand over my heart and rub the ache that is throbbing in my chest.  No girl will ever mean to me what Hailey MacCoy does.

I stood at the cold dark water’s edge, my reflection staring back at me from the glasslike surface. The reflection of a girl that I no longer knew. I breathed in the overwhelming scent of pine and recognized the tranquility that surrounded me. The soft hum of the city in the distance, the echo of an eagle’s cry overhead, the steady drum of my heart—the only sounds that could be heard in the quiet serenity that was present all around me.

Inside an entirely different scene existed. Whirling thoughts, like hurricane-force winds, blew through my mind while a dark, thunderous storm was raging inside my soul, cutting the power to the central organ of my existence—my heart. I was destined to weather this storm on my own. After all, like Mother Nature, I was the controlling force behind these conditions.

I threw a stone into the mirrored surface of the water before me and watched the small circular wave expand from the point where it broke through the stillness.

It was hard not to think of the stone as the choice I had made, the choice that inevitably created waves in the smooth waters of my life. The first lie, like the first ripple in the water, seemed so small but quickly became more significant. Each wave growing in size and depth, impossible to stop. The effect from that one choice spread through my life like the ripple moving across the surface of the water.

I longed for the stillness.

4 Bare Naked Stars ****

So I picked up Fighting Redemption with mixed feelings and a little trepidation. I'm not keen on war based books but decided to give it a try.

Well I was hooked from the first page, sobbing by the second, laughing on the third! Ok. That might be a slight exaggeration but a good example of the roller coaster of emotions that Kate McCarthy takes you on.......

Ryan is a soldier, first and foremost, but why? Is he just running from his demons, trying to constantly make up for a childhood broken and scarred? Jake is his brother from another mother! Best friends. Blood brothers, then there's Fin. Jakes younger sister and the one girl Ryan can't forget.

“The taste of Fin was like the purest Heaven and the hottest Hell.”

“Christ. He didn’t just love her, he fucking adored her. He’d give his life for her if he had to.”

But Fin can't wait forever while Ryan saves the world, she has a life, a boyfriend, a career.......but then there's him, Ryan.........who she just can't forget.......

 

“He strode towards her wearing a deep blue shirt stretched tight across his wide chest and a pair of soft, dark jeans. Mirrored aviators covered his beautiful, dark eyes, and his hair—longer now—was casually windblown."

 

The relationship between Ryan, Jake and Fin nearly broke my heart at times......I did literally sob reading this book, several times........luckily Fin's best friend Rachael pops up from time to time and throws a ray of laughter into the pages.

 

“Oh my God, Fin,” Rachael hissed and grabbed a napkin off the bench. She started fanning herself with it. “The tension out there is thick enough to give me an eye twitch. Look,” she said, pointing at her eye. “Can you see it? It’s annoying the crap out of me.”

 

This is a great read, if you can read between the tears!

When asked ‘when do you have time to write’, Amy Gregory simply laughs.  The real answer is, “in bits and pieces”.  She and her husband live in Kansas City with their three fantastic kids that keep them running in three very different directions.  Because she sits so much, she always carries a notebook with her at all times.

As soon as Wendy sent me the synopsis to this book I knew I had to read it. I practically begged her to allow me to do this one.  It pulled me in right from the start and I couldn’t get it out of my head.

I was a bit concerned at first as I hadn’t read the first 3 books. I thought I’d have missed something important, but was quickly proven I had nothing to worry about. Alex’s Destiny can be read as a stand-alone, although characters from the previous books are present.

Alex has always loved Dallas. Ever since she was 3 years old and grabbed his hand. There was no doubt in her mind. She was his, he was hers. They were soul mates and would be destined together. Yes there was a 7 year age difference and they were apart a lot of the time. But that didn’t deter her, she would wait.

“Alex was living out her dream, and she wanted nothing less than the same for him, because she loved him.”

He’s loved her just as much; however he has always tried to ignore his feelings towards her thinking its wrong. She’s too young for starters and she’s like family to him. He has a hard time with this throughout the book. And as a result of this he inadvertently hurts Alex when he returns home for a visit.

“Alex. It’s always been Alex.”

“But dad,”- Dallas shook his head, then defeated he lowered it into his palms-“I don’t want to feel this way. I shouldn’t feel this way-it’s not right.”

“You are not related. There’s nothing wrong about it-except what you did this week.”

It’s after he leaves that the story really takes off.

Alex is such a strong character. She’s beautiful, passionate and brave. She’s wealthy, but does not take her wealth for granted. She doesn’t care for material items, she would much rather spend her days at the race academy her family owns and teaching the students there.

 However one night, that all changes.  After something horrible happens to her, she disappears into a deep, dark place and just gives up on everything. Instead of feeling like a victim, she feels “dirty”, tainted and un-touchable. This book is Dallas struggle and journey to bring “his” Alex back, to bring back the shine to her eyes.

“Please, let me in. Let me help you, please, Alex.”

Will Dallas be able to bring her back? Will he be able to let go of his inner turmoil and finally have the type of relationship he wants?

 

I couldn’t help but be encaptured by the feelings and turmoil that both Dallas and Alex go through in this book. I smiled when they smiled and my heart broke when they hurt. There was also times when I just wanted to reach in, give them both a huge hug and tell them it will all be ok.

It’s a story of love, family and healing. And Amy, You really did hit the nail on the head with this. It was amazing...truly amazing. You made me feel connected to the characters and as a result felt every emotion pouring out of the pages and into me.

I am now going to go and read the other stories in the ‘Racing to Love’ series. I want to know everything about this ever-growing family.
