**Blog Tour** Toxic by Meghan Quinn

Title: Toxic
Author: Meghan Quinn
Genre: New Adult Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 3, 2014

His life consists of his best friend, Jack Daniels, his favorite drug and women who give him what he wants and leave. Rook Tyler lives for performing at night and wasting the rest of his days washing away the pain from his childhood so he doesn’t have to feel anything...ever. The only people he trusts are his band mates from Shattered Souls and he wants to keep it that way. His life was completely under control and simple until he heard the voice of Maisy Madison filter through The Tavern speakers.

Growing up in the foster care system with her two other band mates from Twisted Perfection, Maisy finds herself doing pretty much anything to get her and her band noticed but nothing seems to be working.  One lucky night, Shattered Souls, the most popular band in the country, decides to show up at their little concert and luckily signs them on the spot and books them for their tour but the arena venues and massive amount of fans isn’t what has Maisy shaking in her heels.  It’s the deep baritone voice of Rook Tyler that haunted her dreams for years that has her wondering if she can actually go through with the tour.

The force is almost too strong.  He can feel her everywhere he goes and no matter how much he tries to resist her, he finds himself gravitating towards Maisy, wanting to hold her, kiss her and fuck her. He knows he shouldn’t get involved.  He knows no matter what, he will end up hurting her but he can’t help it, his soul is connected to hers and the pull is too strong for him to resist.

Rook warned her time and time again but she didn’t listen, she didn’t want to listen. She needed him and she didn’t care that she knew deep down in her heart that their relationship was going to end in disaster. She didn’t care that their jealousies, stubbornness and baggage were getting in the way of their relationship. She didn’t care that they constantly hurt each other and that no matter what they did, their love was toxic.
Toxic, book one of The Addiction Series, tells the story of Rook and Maisy’s relationship, how it develops into an undeniable love and then crumbles apart every chance it gets.  Follow their twisted relationship as they fight off lies, temptations, addictions, users and try to overcome the toxic love they share.

Short Excerpt
“What if I want to take the risk? What if I want you too?”
Rook looked down at her and she could feel his hot breathe on her skin which caused goose bumps to ripple across her body.
“You’d be a fool to want that. I’m not lying when I say I will destroy you. What’s flowing between us is toxic. We can’t get enough of it but it will slowly kill us. I know I shouldn’t expose you to such a thing but I’m too damn selfish to stop myself. I want you, Maisy. I need you and to hell if I’m going to put your needs in front of mine.”
With that he crushed his lips against hers and set every nerve ending in her body on fire. She knew he was right, what they had was toxic but she couldn’t stop herself. She felt the same way when it came to Rook Tyler. She needed him, her soul begged for him even though she knew in the end she would die from heartache.

When I was in high school I occasionally read books but was consumed by other teenage things so I didn’t take the time to appreciate a good book on a cloudy day, wrapped up in a blanket on the couch, besides “The Notebook” I made time to read the heartbreaking novel.

It wasn’t until I received a Kindle for Christmas one year that my world completely flipped upside down. When looking for books, I came across the Contemporary Romance genre and was sold and I haven’t turned back since.

You can either find my head buried in my Kindle, listening to inspiring heart ripping music or typing away on the computer twisting and turning the lives of my characters while driving my readers crazy with anticipation.

I am currently residing in beautiful Colorado Springs where the sun is always shining and there is a trail waiting to be hiked on every corner. I share a lovely and warm home with the love of my life and my five, four-legged children.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW

Tell us a little bit about yourself?
Sure, I grew up in Southern California where the sun is always shining and In and Out is just around the corner to curb your fry dipping-milkshake cravings. I lived in New York (Upstate) for eight years which is where I met the love of my life, got married, adopted five, four-legged children and bought my first house, where I had my first ever “office”. I now live in beautiful Colorado where there’s an amazing trail to hike around every corner and someone selling tamales out of their trunk for those who are willing enough to risk the workings of their intestines for a little taste. I have the mouth of a sailor, thanks to two older brothers, I’m right handed but sometimes use my left hand when I’m too lazy, I’m an ordained reverend and people watching is my high. If I could be invisible most of the time just so I can eavesdrop on people’s most important and sensitive arguments, I would be the happiest person alive. I am way too nosey and thrive off of drama. Oh…and I love peanut butter, I mean, dip me in a vat of PB, fry me up and call it a day.

Tell us about your work.  What are you writing now?
Right now? Well that would be “Becoming a Jett Girl”. Sorry to all you Hot-Lanta Series fans, I promise book three is next, cross my heart. “Becoming a Jett Girl” will be a three book series.  I woke up one morning with this idea and I haven't been able to get it out of my head. The book will take place in fabulous New Orleans on sinful Bourbon Street and in the beautiful Garden District. Think high class gentlemen's club, where lap dances are a fine art and it's not only a privilege, but a process to become a Jett Girl. Kinky do you ask? Yes! Jett is a domineering man who has multiple Jett Girls at his disposal but one of them just might ruin him for life. I am looking for a spring time release.
I would have to say my work is slightly different than other authors in the fact that I like to write in multiple POV’s. I do this not only so readers can learn the stories of all the characters but also because I like to torture the readers by switching POV’s just when things start to get good. God, it’s so much fun for me but rather torturous for you. I’m sorry, but I’m not. J

Where did you draw your inspiration for Toxic?
I have been asked that a couple of times so here is my response…
I was in Denver at the Bluebird to watch Boyce Avenue play. The Bluebird is one of those hole in the wall kind of theatres that’s so hipster but beyond cool where seats are nowhere to be found and you are practically swapping sweat with the stranger next to you, just trying to catch a glimpse of the stage.
Boyce Avenue was singing “Fast Car”, a Tracy Chapman cover, when it hit me like Miley Cyrus’ naked body on a wrecking ball. I pulled out my phone, which lit up the area around me but I didn’t care, I quickly typed out my idea in the note pad app.  This is exactly what I wrote, it’s still in my phone: (don’t mind the lack of punctuation and run on sentences)
“Toxic relationship with lead singers they can’t be with each other because they are ruining each other but they can’t be without each other it’s too hard Rook has abusive father always hitting him up for cash doing drugs got Rook into them”
Clearly the book was developed after that, but that was the beginning of Toxic…”Fast Car”, kind of fitting.

When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
I used to have an hour and twenty minute commute to and from work every day. I had plenty of time to think on that drive which led me to start developing multiple personalities. It gets lonely sometimes when you are all by your lonesome for so long. I thought it was weird at first, that I had these characters running through my head, I thought that maybe I should go see someone about it but I took the cheaper route and started writing everything down. Enter…Caught Looking, my first book.

What was the first romance novel you read that made an impression on you?
Hmm…God I can’t even remember what it was called but I was WAY too young to be reading it. I want to say it was something called “How to Lasso a Cowboy.” I just googled it, I am correct, it was “How to Lasso a Cowboy” by Jodi Thomas. Why my mom thought it was ok that I was reading such a risk-ay book just makes me think she made a poor choice in parenting during my high school years but none the less, the book defiantly made an impression on me. I felt like I was Evelyn from A League of their Own trying to read for the first time and realizing what was actually going on in the book was NAUUUGHTY!… “milky white…milky white…breasts.” Eeeeep!

What do you do while you write? Do you listen to music, watch TV, eat snacks, etc.?
I procrastinate a lot, hence me answering this interview rather than finishing up a chapter in Jett Girl. I have an addiction with checking my newsfeed on Facebook and heaven forbid I receive an email and don’t respond in a minute. Yes, procrastination is a huge part of me writing, if that makes sense. I also listen to music. If I don’t have music playing then there is no point of me trying to write, it won’t happen. Currently I am listening to my Jett Girl playlist on Spotify that is really HOT!

Tell us 3 surprising things about yourself.
I am going to treat this question as two truths and a lie. You guys can decide which is the lie J
1.  I was once shot at with a gun.
2. My grandma is a romance author as well.
3.  I received a full-ride scholarship for softball. God bless athletics.

What’s the last movie you watched and loved?
Hands down, Saving Mr. Banks. I love Tom Hanks, with a disturbing passion, add a little musical in there, Disney and a back story that will blow your mind and I am a goner! I will never look at Mary Poppins the same way. If you have not seen it, you are missing out!!!

What’s your idea of a perfect date?
Hmmm…Does flying me to Paris count? Wouldn’t that be nice?
A perfect date, well I guess I will pull from experience. It might be lame to some people, but going out to eat, sharing a dessert because I have a HUGE sweet tooth, talking about me because frankly I am a little self-absorbed then going to do an activity such as mini-golf or the batting cages. I think what makes a date great is by sharing an experience with your special someone. There are only so many impressions you get to make on a person before they count you in or out for the long run, so why not have some fun with them, get to know them by enjoying an activity together. Plus, if you do something physical, it gives you the opportunity not only to “ask for help” but it gives you the room to lightly bump into your date, caress your dates arm or accidently bend over to pick something up while showing off that glorious ass of yours. Am I right ladies? Work it!

If you could take a romantic trip anywhere, where would it be?
The Mikonos. I hope to spend my 30th birthday (That’s right, I’m a youngin) in Greece. I don’t even have a passport right now but by my 30th birthday I will because Greece is in my travel plans. It’s breath taking just looking at the pictures. The contrast between the white buildings and the deep blue sea is something I HAVE to experience in person. Plus…Baklava in my mouth, please!

Do you believe in love at first sight?
Yes, even though that was NOT how my marriage started, more like hate at first sight but we won’t get into that. I believe in the theory that your heart and soul know what they want. Whether it be M/M, M/F, F/F, your heart doesn’t lie and if you see that person that you are meant to be with across the street, picking their underwear out of their ass then that is what your heart wants, someone who needs new underwear. As a society, we don’t have room to judge how love is dictated because it comes in so many ways and comes about in the most unpredictable scenarios. So yes, love at first sight can happen. Love after five years of hatred can happen. Love from friendship, love from business, love from being saved….all can happen.

Top three things on your bucket list:
1.  NY Times Best Seller – can anyone say predictable?
2.  Adopt a baby boy - name him Crosby and watch him grow up to play in the NFL or MLB (it will happen)
3.  Stand under the Eiffel Tower and look up her skirt, I want to see what the hype is all about J

Boxers or Briefs?
What’s the point of underwear…it’s going to be taken off anyway.

Tattoos or Piercings?
Even though I write about guys with tattoos I like a clean slate. Might as well make my own marks right? (all talk haha)

Brains or Muscles?
Brains…bring in the dough baby! Plus most of the time I am an idiot so I need someone watching over me and making sure I don’t lock myself in the bathroom for the day with no way to get out. (It happened, I have shame)

Planner or Wing it?
Wing it, please wing it. Well, time out, for a second, planner or wing it for a mate or for me? If for my mate then wing it, if for me…planner all the way. If my life is not planned out at least a couple of months in advanced I am lost!

Favorite feel good drink?
Malibu rum and pineapple/orange juice. Get a couple of those in me and I will be dry humping your leg before you know what hit you.

Vanilla or chocolate?
Strawberry! I am the only grown ass adult who still craves Strawberry milk and gets it at least a couple of times a month. I am not lying when I say I go to pick out a drink at the gas station during a road trip and strawberry milk is in my hand. I am a child.

Laptop or desktop?
Laptop….what is a desktop? Is that one of the clunky things that people used to work on when they wore shoulder pads and combed their molester like mustaches?

Beach or mountains?
Now this has to be one of the hardest questions so far. God, I don’t even know. I grew up next to the beach but now live in the mountains. I just…I just can’t choose. It’s not going to happen…sorry.

Winter or summer?
Summer…my God, please bring on summer. Winter is cold, snowy and always brings on my dreaded enemy….parking lot slush. For a girl who lives in adorable flats every day, parking lot slush is the death of them…the death!
