Good morning, Gray here, and today I have S.J. Maylee with me to answer a few questions.
What are you working on at the minute?
I’m preparing to write the third book in my Love Projects series. The heroine has been the trouble maker so far in the series and I’m looking forward to telling her story.
What genre do you consider your book(s)?
I’ve been writing contemporary erotic romance, M/F, with Dominance and Submission. I see a lot more of that in my future. I also have plans for at least one M/F/M and a science fiction erotic romance series too.
Do you ever experience writer’s block?
Yes and it’s a sign I’m not listening to my characters. My stories are driven by my instincts. If I stop listening, the characters stop talking, and it becomes impossible to write.
When this happens, I step away from the story and get other things done. I take a shower, watch a movie, listen to new music… Before long, my characters will come back to me and I’ll get back to writing.
Do you set out an outline before you write a book??
I work with a beat sheet. It helps me keep track of the story flow and ensures I prepare my characters for that black moment and deliver them to their happy ending.
In this file, I also keep track of more things than just the scenes in the story. I keep an eye on my word count for each scene and chapter too. I love it when my chapter endings leave my readers needing to know what happens next.
Did you have a hand in designing your cover?
I provide my publisher’s cover artist with details about my hero/heroine, setting, and a few details about pivotal scenes. My Love Projects series takes place in Chicago and you can see it in the background of those book covers. For Untangle Me, I mentioned one scene took place on a desk and they captured it perfectly on that cover. For my latest release, In the Blind, I provided an example picture. Since Club Blind provides its customers with a pitch black atmosphere, I wanted a cover that felt like the lights were off and I believe they delivered.

An evening of pitch black unrestrained passion at Club Blind opens her eyes to life’s possibilities. Now, if they don’t fight past their personal demons, they might never truly discover what they need most. About S.J. Maylee:
S.J. Maylee fell in love with storytelling at a young age and with it came a deep-seated desire for everyone to find their happily ever after. She’s finding the happy endings for her characters one steamy story at a time.
When she’s not reading or writing, you can find her caring for her garden, laughing with her two young sons, or dancing to her husband’s music. She’s a PMP (Project Management Professional), Nia instructor, and coffee addict.
As a writer she has a tendency to break hearts, but she always glues them back together.
