FIGHTING SILENCE
“Hi.” I stood up off the bed as he started climbing through the window.
His eyes went wide when he saw me, causing him to momentarily lose his balance on the windowsill and go crashing to the floor. “God. Damn,” he cursed as he rose to his feet while taking in my new wardrobe. “You… I…um…” His hand went to his lip.
He was rooted in place only a few steps away, but his eyes traveled over every inch of my body and back again.
Till was speechless. I had never felt so empowered in my life.
“Are you okay?” I feigned concern as I slowly approached.
“Not even close,” he told my breasts, making me giggle.
After sliding a hand under the edge of his T-shirt, I raked a fingernail over each of his abs before dipping it into the waistband of his jeans.
“I’m sore today,” I announced, closing the distance between us. My breasts were pressed against him, but he still hadn’t even attempted to touch me yet. I had plans to remedy that. I smirked then stood up on my tiptoes, kissing the base of his neck. “Make me sore for tomorrow too.” At the last second, I darted my tongue out to the hollow dip at the base of his neck. It was meant to tease him, but as the taste of his skin hit my tongue, I was flooded with memories of taking more of him in my mouth. The moan escaped before I’d even felt it coming.
A loud rumble shook his chest, but that was the only warning I received. Suddenly, I was off my feet and sailing through the air. Just as I landed on the bed, Till crashed on top of me. His mouth roughly landed on mine.
“Tell me we can’t do this again,” he demanded as his hands found my breasts.
“We’re definitely doing this again.” I arched into him.
“It’s gonna get so messy, Eliza. Please.” He groaned as I reached into the front of his jeans.
“I’m okay with messy,” I breathed, guiding his hand from my breast and into my panties.
“Fuuuuuck” he cursed when he discovered just how thorough I’d been with the razor earlier. His finger pressed inside me as his body traveled down the bed and settled between my legs, stripping my panties off during his descent.
He added another finger in a less than gentle but overwhelmingly intoxicating, rhythm.
“Tell me to stop, Eliza. We can’t do this again.” He grazed his teeth on the inside of my thigh.
“We’re already doing it.”
“Tell me to stop.”
“No.”
“It’s going to ruin us.”
“If you don’t stop talking, you’re going to ruin this.”
“I’m serious.” He kissed the inside of my other thigh, his fingers never faltering in their steady pace.
“So am I. Stop trying to talk yourself out of this while your fingers are buried inside me.” I threaded a hand into his hair and gave it a gentle tug.
“Goddammit. Tell me to stop!” he demanded one last time, but his fingers sped before twisting in the most delicious way.
I decided to give him what he wanted, but only because I knew he wouldn’t follow through.
“Stop.” I rolled my hips forcing him even deeper.
“Well, it’s too fucking late now.”
I would have laughed, but his mouth sealed over my clit and stole my breath, words, thoughts, and orgasm. My body shook as he pushed me higher even while I was falling. It shouldn’t have worked like that, but whatever voodoo magic Till Page was working with that night was all right with me. He didn’t stop swirling his tongue until I used his hair to pry his mouth away.
“Too much!” I cried.
He looked up with a wickedly proud grin. His hand disappeared, and seconds later, his cock replaced it.
Sound is an abstract concept for most people. We spend our lives blocking out the static in order to focus on what we believe is important. But what if, when the clarity fades into silence, it's the obscure background noise that you would give anything to hold on to?
I've always been a fighter. With parents who barely managed to stay out of jail and two little brothers who narrowly avoided foster care, I became skilled at dodging the punches life threw at me. Growing up, I didn’t have anything I could call my own, but from the moment I met Eliza Reynolds, she was always mine. I became utterly addicted to her and the escape from reality we provided each other. Throughout the years, she had boyfriends and I had girlfriends, but there wasn't a single night that I didn’t hear her voice.
You see, meeting the love of my life at age thirteen was never part of my plan. However, neither was gradually going deaf at the age of twenty-one.
They both happened anyway.
Now, I'm on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting for my career.
Fighting the impending silence.
Fighting for her.
Every night, just before falling asleep, she sighs as a final conscious breath leaves her.
I think that's the sound I'll miss the most.

Nicola's 5 Bare Naked Stars*****Review
Oh my!! This book. These characters….
I absolutely LOVED this story. Truly, truly loved it and if I could
give it more stars I would.
After reading the synopsis when I got an email saying how ‘Fighting Silence’ was right up my
street I just knew I was going to enjoy this book. But by god was I surprised
at just how much?
I was hooked and my heart captured from the first instance.
Aly doesn’t pull any punches as she throws us right into the thick of
things from the start and does not let up throughout the books entirety. Our emotions are thrown off kilter and left
with an aching heart.
“I won’t leave ever again. I swear. It’s
me and you forever, Eliza.”
For Eliza and Till growing up was not that easy as what it should be
for kids. Born to parents who couldn’t give a shit about them, they found
comfort in an old condemned apartment. From there an odd friendship is formed
which, as the years pass, grows into a formidable bond that will hold them
together, yet test them. They became each other’s rock when everything seemed
to tumble around them
For Till, Eliza
is too special to him and although he loved her he didn’t want to risk a
relationship in fear of losing her forever.
“Till and I both knew we had a strange relationship. It was more than
a friendship, but there wasn’t romance or sex. There was definitely love
though. Immeasurable amounts of it. I knew that Till had this grab fantasy
about me. But what he didn’t realize was all that he gave me in return. He was
the only thing I’d ever had that I honestly though I couldn’t live without.
Till Page was my soulmate on every level.”
Unfortunately, you can’t live in
fantasy forever.
“No more, Till. I love you, but I’m sick of living in your fantasy. My
door will always be open for you…No more windows. No more pretending…
…The fantasy’s over. Let me know when you’re ready to use the door.”
I loved Till
and my heart broke for him as well. He had such a beautiful heart and didn't
know his own worth. Not having the parents that cared about him or his brothers
caused him to doubt himself and he became so focused on taking care of others
that he forgot to take care of himself. He worked his arse off to guarantee his
brothers were well cared for and had the best life he could offer them. Working 2 jobs plus at a new gym every spare
hour, he was determined to make a career from boxing so he could finally have
the money to provide for his family.
“I believe you’re going to set the boxing world on fire, because every
time you put on those gloves, you’re doing it for them.”
His
determination was inspiring and though he wanted to give up at times he kept
going for the sake of his brothers.
I loved Eliza’s
character. She was incredibly strong and independent, yet giving and loyal. She
took Till into her heart and never let him go. She saw something in him that he
never thought possible; a man who was worthy of love.
Her commitment
to Till and his brothers was admirable, especially for someone so young. She
became the woman in their lives that they could look up to and the one they
could count on to stick around even when times got a bit rough. She was the
glue that held them together; the heart and soul of their family.
I absolutely
loved his journey of self-worth, and how he overcame incredible odds to make it
to the top. He had to fight the silence, but with the people he cared about
most surrounding him he fought and in the end won.
“Home of
Till Page
On The Ropes’ First World Champion.”
Told in Duel POV, we get more of an insight to how both Eliza and Till
are feeling in certain situations when they are both together and apart. It
showed us just how much Till was struggling to face reality and to take that
leap of faith to ‘walk through the front
door’. I just wanted to reach in and shake some sense into him. It was
heart-breaking. You could see the love they felt for each other, you could feel
it and I was hoping with all that I am that they would find their happiness
together.
‘Fighting Silence’ is the first
book I have read by Aly Martinez and I must say I am utterly impressed. This
isn’t just your typical fighter; oh no. What Aly has delivered is a truly
beautiful and heartfelt story of two people who found love in each other when
they got it from nowhere else. They become each other’s rock; their everything.
Though neither Eliza nor Till live
a conventional lifestyle, they found a family with one another that no one
could take away. Growing up too quickly, they learned to navigate the world
with challenges that others their age have never had to face.
This is a story of fantasy and reality; knowing the difference and
about having the willingness to fight for what you want and what you deserve.
And by hell do these two deserve it.
Thank you Aly, for this magnificent story and these amazing
characters. I am forever in love with them and cannot wait to get so much more
of them in the future.
