“As she sobbed, Emma swore that this would be the last time she wasted any tears over that man, mourning for what could have been. She had thought she was over him. She was over him. This was just a minor setback, right?” 

This is my first read by Mya. What drew me to this book, was how Mya wrote about real life situations. From the hurricane, to abuse, to protecting a child’s welfare, Mya took us into a reality that a lot of authors wouldn’t write about. 

“His number one priority, though, was his little girl. He needed to go home; he wouldn’t feel right until he could see for himself what was going on.” 

Emma and Jake are two people who have sworn off relationships with the opposite sex. When a tragedy creates a chance meeting between the two, sparks fly and feelings are put into perspective. Can they make it work? Can Jake bring Emma into his world with his daughter and his ex? Can Emma allow herself to experience love? Mya paints a picture of real life struggles and has us asking....can love conquer all?  

“No, I can’t do this. I can’t do this anymore. Not like this. It’s killing me. Don’t you see that you’re my world? How can I only have you part time? I’m growing more attached to you every single minute. I can’t take this.”  

Although, at times, the story was slower paced than I’m used to, I just had to read to find out what happens with all the characters! Mya is a compassionate writer, and each of her characters shows a level of compassion as well. 

This is a book that would make a great summer read...a comfy spot, a glass of wine and Calm After the Storm.

Mya O'Malley was born and raised in the suburbs of New York City, where she currently lives with her husband, daughter, and three stepdaughters. The family also consists of their boxer, Destiny, and their ragdoll cat, Colby.

Mya earned an undergraduate degree in special education and a graduate degree in reading and literacy. She works as a special education teacher and enjoys making a difference in the lives of her students.

Mya's passion is writing; she has been creating stories and poetry since she was a child. Mya spends her free time reading just about anything she can get her hands on. She is a romantic at heart and loves to craft stories with unforgettable characters. Mya also likes to travel; she has visited several Caribbean Islands, Mexico, and Costa Rica. Mya is currently working on her sixth novel.
