The spotlight doesn’t only shine. Sometimes, it burns.
Being the bad-boy bassist for the world’s hottest band has earned Griffin Hancock some perks: a big house, a fast car, and most importantly his incredible wife, Anna. The one thing it hasn’t brought him is the spotlight. Anna tells him to be patient, but he’s tired of waiting. Griffin is no longer waiting for permission to shine.
Without warning, Griffin makes a shocking decision and takes the gamble of a lifetime. Suddenly he’s caught up in a new level of lights, cameras, and chaos. One that pushes his relationship with Anna to its limits. Just as the recognition Griffin seeks is finally within reach, the thing he loves most in life could be slipping through his fingers.

Wendy's 5 Bare Naked Star Review
“The Hulk will see you now” Griffin Hancock
If you think you know Griffin’s story, think again. If you think his story is going to be predictable, think again. If you think Griffin’s story will be awesome, you are spot on. And Griffin would say “of course it’s going to be f**king awesome, I’m in it” because yes he really is that big headed.
“Welcome to Awesometown, Population: Me”
Every one of us loved the outrageously behaved Griffin throughout the Thoughtless series, he is one of the most quotable characters you’ll ever come across, uncouth, unfiltered and downright dirty. We also know he doesn’t seem to think that highly of his bandmates talents, but the belief in his own talents is certainly over inflated. Now I’m all for a little self-belief, but Griffin has so much of the stuff you could fill a D-Bags concert stadium with it. Talk about the ego has landed.
“Feeling pretty good in my size thirteen shoes – in your face, Kellan!”
He has however met his match in Anna, they are perfect together, he also adores his daughter and is very protective of her, if only he could curb the swearing.
I loved seeing these two together, there sexcapades were certainly imaginative. But is this enough to keep the family together when things start to go wrong? Is it really a partnership, are they really Team Hancock, or is it just all about Griffin?
As you watch Griffin handle the unfolding situation you know it has train wreck written all over it. You wanted to scream “STOP! its gonna end in tears” “Grow up you stupid ass” “No really, stop” – amongst other things.
Griffin is so self absorbed in his own awesomeness that he took no one else’s opinions or feelings into consideration, he barely contributes to the band anymore, rocking up late, taking no interest in their plans, but expecting to be the star of the show.
Now this is where I may be a little controversial, but hear me out.
I was slightly disappointed in Kellan. *ducks for cover* I can actually hear all the die-hard Kellan fans gasp, but bear with me.
Griffin is not the sharpest tool in the box, in fact I’m not sure he could open the box. Not that it would bother him, he’d just smash the damn box to pieces to get to the tools. So we all know he’s missing some smarts, and the band know this too, so when he starts acting out, and I do mean acting out, like a toddler on really sweary inducing steroids, I really felt that Kellan would have been much more in tune with how to handle Griffin. I thought he would do more to resolve the situation, step up and lead them to a better solution. But he seemed to stand back and let it all unfold until it was too late.
The underlying message throughout this book is not to take things for granted, and be careful what you wish for, because you might just get it, but at what cost.
Will you like Griffin at the start of the book? Oh yeah. Will you like him by the middle of the book? Not so much. Will you like him by the end of the book? Well you’ll have to read it to find out.
Thank you to SC Stephens, for this crazy addition to the Thoughtless series of books, and thank you for the shout out to Bare Naked Words in the acknowledgements. To be included alongside some of the best bloggers in the business was awesome, but to actually be named in Griffin’s book, part of such an iconic series, was mind blowing. Who’d have thought that when I was being emotionally destroyed by Thoughtless in 2012, that my little old blog would actually make it to the pages of an SC Stephens book.
Now that was my dream come true.
