Who hasn't read a story written from the heroine’s point of view, and wondered, "What was he thinking during all of this? What emotions did he experience?" 

 I think it is pretty safe to say we have all wondered how the hero, or male counterpart of the story, experienced the same situations differently.  Stephanie John answered those questions brilliantly in this short story, which encompasses the first meeting between Nate and Kara outside of his office, but tells it from Nate’s point of view. 

 As with Salvation, I was mesmerized by Stephanie’s descriptions and use of an obviously extensive vocabulary.  Reading Nate’s experience, and the electric connection he felt to Kara, made me fall even more in love with him. A great example of this is how he describes the first moment their hands touch, the first skin on skin contact when they shake hands:

“It was cool from her drink, but the blazing heat surging to every nerve ending of my body from her touch, set my soul on fire.”

I mean, really……swoon-worthy much???  I absolutely adored Salvation, and this short story follow up is no exception.  To be honest….I may have even loved it a teensy bit more.  Nate is absolutely irresistible, and hearing his inner monologue makes him even more so.

“Fuck me if she wasn’t ogling my ass and blushing like hell from being caught doing so.”

I can’t express how much enjoyment I got out of this book.  It was truly intoxicating and incredibly sexy to hear the same words from Salvation be followed by Nate’s thoughts and feelings.

“You don’t work for me. Well, you’re not directly beneath me.  Which is unfortunate…”  Beneath, on top, on all fucking fours in front of me - we could try them all so long as we tried them together.”

I was ready for the second book in this series before I even set my sights on this one, but after reading this, I think Ms. John needs to hurry up and get me the next installment….I need me some more Nate Blake!
