Synopsis
Yoga instructor Genevieve Harper is a blond bombshell loaded down with responsibility and sacrifice. She makes the most out of raising her two siblings in the wake of their parents’ tragic accident. At twenty-four, she doesn’t have time to devote to a man…especially not the devastatingly handsome Trent Fox, who’s known for being a “player” on and off the baseball field.
Trent has the best hitting average in the league. Recently, he suffered a torn hamstring that takes him to the Lotus House Yoga Center for recuperation. There he meets the curvy, petite blonde with soulful black eyes and candy-coated glossy lips he’d like to do more to than kiss. He secures the flexible hottie for daily private lessons that ultimately show him how sensual the art of yoga can be.
Can love grow between a woman who’s rooted in her life and a man who resists any notion of staying in one place?
If you’re intrigued by the practice of yoga and desire a sensual, intensely erotic, and uniquely spiritual read with characters capable of performing pretzel-like sexual acts, the Lotus House series is for you.

Our Review
Review by Kristie:
Resisting Roots is my first venture into the many worlds of author Audrey Carlan. The opportunity to review this book gave me the chance to finally meet her properly, and I am in love. Ms. Carlan has a gift for storytelling, and I enjoyed every minute of my time wrapped up in her mind’s embrace.
The story is centered around a drop dead gorgeous blonde yoga instructor, with a petite build and dark eyes that rival the beauty of the night sky. Genevieve Harper is selfless, with a heart of gold, and enormous responsibilities upon her small shoulders. Losing her parents in a tragic car accident three years prior, Genevieve was thrust into the role of caretaker for her younger brother and sister, as well as the family home they grew up in. A monumental task for anyone, but Genevieve handles it beautifully. My heart melted at the relationship she has with her siblings, and the love they share with one another. Their honest communication, strong family values, and steel resolve made me yearn for what they shared. In order to care for her family, Genevieve dropped out of cosmetology school just months before completing her degree. To make ends meet, she teaches yoga at the studio of a family friend and does hair in the small salon she setup in her parents garage. Genevieve’s heart drew me in immediately. She is so kind, sweet, sincere, and honest. I wanted to be her best friend, and bundle her up in bubble wrap and protect her from the world.
During our many trips to the yoga studio, Ms. Carlan introduces us to the world of hatha yoga. The art of yoga has always intrigued me, but I always found it intimidating. With each chapter came a small tidbit of yoga or spiritual knowledge. The detailed, yet simple descriptions of the different poses, and the muscles and areas of the body they worked and stretched were important to the story but also very interesting to read. These tidbits of knowledge weren’t too much, or too little. They added to the dimension of the story, rather than taking away from it or making it long winded and boring. I was truly enlightened and intrigued by the extra content, and found myself able to more clearly see the pictures in my head. This short journey into the world of yoga has actually inspired me to seek out a class and see what it is all about.
The tall dark and handsome element to this story comes in the form of a six foot something slab of pure muscle and raw sexuality. Trent Fox is the best hitter in major league baseball, ranking in the top three in both the American and National leagues combined. Unfortunately, it isn’t only the ball that Trent hits hard. A player both on and off the field, he is known for his partying and womanizing ways. We are introduced to Trent after he has sustained a baseball related injury, a torn hamstring requiring surgery and weeks of rehabilitation therapy. One would think that he would be minding his p’s and q’s, eating right and doing his prescribed regimen so he can get back on the field. Well, considering our first encounter with Trent is when his agent visits his apartment to find him passed out on the couch after a night of over indulgence, and surrounded by empty bottles and filth, it would be safe to say he isn’t taking his recovery as seriously as one would think. My first impression of Trent in those moments? I didn’t like him. A cocky, arrogant ass who thinks he is God’s gift to women, and above all the hard work required of him to keep his position on the team. He even admitted that he didn’t know what happened to the woman he was with the night before his agent plowed into his apartment!
“Where was that chick anyway? Tiffany, Kristy, Stephanie…What was her name? She’d ridden my cock for a while, but then I blacked out right in the middle. I snorted. Maybe she left when I wasn’t able to get her off.” -Trent-
I’m not sure if that is the first impression Ms. Carlan was going for with her introduction of Trent Fox, but I think it was a brilliant strategy. Why, you ask? Simple. It made the journey to enlightenment and love that much more intense. Every emotion you experience during Trent and Genevieve’s relationship is heightened because you KNOW what he was capable of before, and exactly what kind of obstacles he has to overcome to be worthy of a woman like Viv. That being said, his agent is able to smack some sense into our guy, and he agrees to start the yoga training as prescribed by his physician. And THAT is where the cosmos smash together, and the light in Viv begins to brighten the dark corners in Trent.
The chemistry between the two is absolutely explosive, melting anything and everything in its path. Watching as they start at a slow burn, and erupt into Mt. Saint Helen’s is a joy to behold. My opinion of Trent started to change with each little interaction he had with Viv and her family. I loved watching him grow, and open like the bloom of a flower. And yes, I admit I giggled, smirked, and swooned right along with all his naughty words, nicknames, clueless statements, and over the top ego.
“I wasn’t kidding before. Your lips. From the second I saw that bubblegum-pink mouth, I wanted to eat you up. And I’ll bet you taste just like candy.” - Trent-
The difficulties they faced as a couple were many, and varied. They both had to overcome a lot of preconceived notions and beliefs, as well as break down walls that had been built long ago. The way Ms. Carlan approached each obstacle was convincing, real, and authentic. These were issues with which I could relate, empathize, and truly feel. The sweet hum of attraction, the heartbreak of betrayal, the sting of rejection, and the elation of true love are all emotions I felt in the reading of this book. A book I would definitely read again. If all this wasn’t enough, the excerpt included at the back of the book for #2 in the Lotus House series (Sacred Serenity), has me aching for more. Write fast, Ms. Carlan……I’m waiting!
