But he couldn't resist.
There are just some guys you don't touch--even someone as innocent and inexperienced as Ella Shaw knows that. But when her brother's best friend is up for grabs and willing, she can't resist. After all, she's wanted him for years...
On leave from the army, Tyler Dare is just looking for a little fun, but his best friend's sister is off limits. Yet unable to deny how sexy and alluring she is, he finds it all too easy to succumb to a night of passion and heat that ends the next morning in the worst way possible.
Now, Ella is stranded on a tropical island with a hurricane bearing down, and only Tyler can save her. It's his chance to make amends for the past and show the woman he's never forgotten that he's coming after her . . . in more ways than one.
Review by Tammy - 4.5 Bare Naked Stars
Dare to Take is filled with love, heartbreak, second chances, and danger.
Tyler owns his own security company after leaving the military. He’s HOT and sexy but has loads of doubts and baggage from his childhood. He comes from a very close knit family that has been through so much together with their estranged father. Tyler’s sister Avery is best friends with Ella. The two girls are as close as best friends can be.
Ella is an assistant to a fashion designer. She comes from a very rough childhood. Her mom passed away when she was a small child and her dad cuts her off for his new wife.
She’s an only child that is left all alone. She feels lost and abandoned from an early age.
One Christmas break Ella is spending the night at Avery’s house and Tyler comes home on leave from the military. The girls start drinking for the first time and Ella gets a bit drunk. She sneaks into Tyler’s room and has her way with him. Things end badly and Tyler runs out the next morning with an excuse to get back to base.
“She was, and always would be, a girl who was good enough to be used- by her father for bone marrow to save her stepmother and by Tyler for sex and nothing after. Both men had defined her expectations.”
This encounter has left Ella feeling like she’s awful in bed and never enough. She carries this through her future relationships. She can’t move past the night they spent together.
Ella is working in St Lucia on a photo shoot and is attacked and mugged. She ends up in the hospital with no money and passport. She is able to get in touch with Avery. Avery sends Tyler down on a private jet to bring her back home. Avery has no idea of their history and what she has put in motion.
No matter how much time has passed they have never been able to move past each other. But it’s a forbidden love and they both feel like they should not tempt fate.
With a hurricane on the way Tyler pushes for Ella’s hospital release. But they are too late to get off the island before it hits. They are stuck in a hotel room together while the storm batters the island.
"He was doing what he'd promised, soothing her old fears and insecurities, allowing her to become a butterfly emerging from her cocoon, braver and stronger than she'd been before. No matter what happened between them in the end, she'd owe him for showing her this side of herself, she thought."
They can’t fight the sexual tension any longer. One night they give into each other but Ella is so nervous things will end like last time. But Tyler is determined to show her he’s not that guy anymore.
“I’m doing what you asked”, he said, forcing the words out from the darkest part of his soul. “I’m letting you go.” He prayed he wasn’t making the biggest mistake of his life.
They both have so much baggage and personal issues to work through does their love have a chance? There are lots of ups and downs and twists and turns to keep you reading. I couldn’t put the book down.
I was sad to find out this was the last book in the series. But she’s already started writing a series on all the cousin’s. I’m hoping their story will continue in the new series.
I loved that Carly told the story from dual POV. It really added to the story getting inside Tyler’s head.
I really enjoyed Dare to Take and plan on reading the rest of the books in this series and her new one. Such a great talented author that pulled me in from the start.
