The only person poetry-loving Cali Monroe hates more than herself is Logan Waters, the geeky kid who lives in the dorm building next to hers.
Ever since Cali's parents told her she would amount to nothing, she has felt entirely inadequate. Friendless and alone, she takes on the mean girl role in hopes it will make her feel better--and Logan serves as the perfect target. He infuriates her with his obnoxiously long lashes, his all too perfect dimpled smile, and his complete lack of personality outside of his intelligence. It doesn't hurt that he's part of the reason her brother is dead, either. So Cali hates him, and he returns the favor. Thus, their prank-filled, insult-driven rivalry is born, and torturing Logan quickly becomes the highlight of her life.
But when Cali's parents set them up on a blind date, she begins to realize Logan might not be as boring as she always thought. He shares her love of poetry, takes a sadistic pleasure in making fun of crepes, and he makes her blush when he calls her smile pretty.
And hey, maybe those long lashes of his aren't that obnoxious after all…
Two Roads is New Adult Romance about finding love, standing out, and learning to embrace who you are. It contains some language and mild sexual content.
“Then go to him,” I say quietly, and now I look up to meet her gaze. Her brown eyes are hard and strong, watching me intently. “Go out with him,” I continue. “Or don’t. But don’t let him go. Because if someone can be constantly on your mind like that, if they can always make you smile, if they can cheer you up one way or another, then you have to go to them. You have to tell them what they mean to you and then you can go out with them or you can stay friends or you can barely ever talk to them, but you enjoy yourself, you have fun, and then you hold fast to them and never, ever let them go. Because if someone, just by their existence, can brighten up your whole day, you have to try like hell to keep them in your life.” I take a long breath as soon as the words finish tumbling out of my mouth, a jumble of thoughts and feelings that, for me, couldn’t be more true. I don’t know where they came from other than straight from that goddamn unpredictable heart of mine, and as soon as the words leave my mouth, I know my subconscious has been working on them for a long time.

Tammy's Review
4 Bare Naked Stars****
Wow Two
Roads is such a different story than the typical sweet YA/NA stories. If you’re looking for the sweet love story
where boy meets girls falls madly in love story this isn’t it. This is a story full of tragedy, loss,
heartbreak but so funny. Many times I
was laughing out loud at the pranks they pulled on each other.
‘I don’t mind being called a bitch. Being a bitch means
I’m strong. Being a bitch means I’m surviving, and sometimes that’s all I can
do: I survive. I do everything I can to get by, even if it makes me sick to my
stomach.’ – Cali
Cali is
lost and broken since the night her brother died four years ago. She can’t seem to let him go or the guilt she
feels for his death. She blames herself, her parents, and Logan (his best
friend) for his death. She is a twenty year old college student that now has
two new personas the mean girl that hates everyone and the popular girl that
hooks up with every boy on campus. But
she doesn’t really hook up with them.
She just pretends and lies to everyone.
She can never move past the guilt and unhappiness she feels over her
brother’s death.
‘I still cry myself to sleep every night. I still spend
my days wishing I could go back to before four years ago. I still feel
worthless, but at least pretending to be someone else dulls the pain.’ – Cali
I LOVED Logan. He is the HOT geek! He loves all things to do with geeky math and
wears the shirts to prove it. He has a
heart of gold and hides how broken he is from his best friend’s death four
years ago. He can’t move past it any
easier than Cali. He just hides it much
better!
‘The truth is, when Logan and I are going at it like
this, we’re in our own little world…..It’s just us, just me and him, just our
insults and our pranks and our twisted refreshing, perfect and so screwed up
hate for each other. In a really strange way it’s kind of nice….My hatred for
Logan is terrible and refreshing, wonderful and horrible all at once.’ – Cali
After Ben’s death (Cali’s brother) Logan
moves away and he doesn’t speak to Cali till he transfers to the same college
she is attending. She feels she must
make his life a nightmare for abandoning her and her brother when they needed
him the most. In her eyes he could have
stopped her brother’s death. She hates he now lives a happy life with his
friends like nothing happened. They are
mean and full of hate towards each other.
They pull prank after prank on each other trying to beat each other at
the game. During these pranks Cali pulls
one that made me throw my kindle! She
pushed it too far and it took me a bit to get past it.
”And that’s the thing about love: no matter how hard
you search, no matter how hard you run, sometimes, just sometimes, true love is
right in front of you all along.”
Cali and Logan are set up on a blind
date. They find out they both love
poetry and they enjoy being around each other even if It’s to pull pranks. They
keep making up more excuses to see each other and be close. Slowly they each
begin to break through each other’s walls. Can they move past the tragedy of
their past and be together or go their separate ways?
I really enjoyed Two Roads. It was the perfect mix of love, loss, tragedy
mixed with the funniest pranks and laugh out loud moments.
