4 Bare Naked Stars ****
Two worlds collide in the book Heights of Desire. For Kate and Jaylee, their once simple lives will never be the same. Kate needs to make the hard decision…a life with everything she needs? Or a life with everything she wants and desires? Stumbling upon Jaylee, Kate’s life changed in the blink of an eye. Her need for Jaylee are so overwhelming that she will go to any length to get her fix. Her family and her life for that matter are no match for the love she feels for Jaylee.
“I shouldn’t be here”, I say. “I’m married and I have two kids-I’m a lot older than you. A lot. What are we doing?”
I found this to be a tough read. At first, I had a hard time with the dialect. There was some Spanish used in the dialogue, but no translation for what was said. However, the more I read on, the more I was drawn into the story. Being a wife and a mother, I could relate to Kate on some levels, as I’m sure most woman can. With certain things, my heart ached for her, but with some other things, I was screaming at her to stop. But as the old saying goes “Don’t judge a person, until you have walked a mile in their shoes”. Mara White does a good job of putting us in Kate’s shoes. Letting us feel exactly was Kate is enduring, the excitement, the heartache, the sadness.
“I know my eyes are empty, scared. Reality feels like fantasy to me. I can’t wrap by head around how it’s possible that so very few actions on my part lead me to this current situation. This time last year I was an entirely different person.”
Due to the abrupt end to Kate and Jaylee’s story, I would label Heights of Desire a tragic love story. However, with the possibility for a second book, I look forward to seeing how Mara White will continue the story of two star crossed lovers.
